The transfer process

FFL transfers are used when transferring from person to person, or ordering a firearm for shipment from either a physical store or an online shop.

If you're ordering from a store or online shop, they will ship the item to us and we will notify you when it arrives so you can stop by and fill out paperwork. To be eligible to transfer or receive a transfer, you must:

  • Be a New Jersey Resident
  • Have an NJ FID card (Firearms identification card)
  • Have a valid handgun permit if purchasing a handgun

Please ensure that both your FID card & and your handgun permit (if applicable) are both valid and not expired prior to making an appointment

Information about handgun permits

Handgun permits are valid for 2 increments of 90 days each, for a total of 180 days from issuance. At the first 90 day mark, they are automatically renewed for an additional 90 days.

Once your firearm arrives at our office, we will contact you to fill out paperwork to complete the NICS check. The NICS check takes around 7 days but can take up to 21 days depending on volume.

Once your NICS check comes back as approved, we will contact you once again to pick up your firearm. You MUST have a valid handgun permit by the time you come to pick up the firearm. In the event that you do not have a valid permit within 7 days of being notified that the firearm is ready for pickup, you will be charged $5 for each day that the handgun is held in storage after that
